Seminar on “Emerging Trade & Investment Opportunities in Pakistan” in Fukuoka

(13-04-2018): A seminar entitled “Pakistan: Emerging Trade and InvestmentOpportunities” was held today in Fukuoka. It was collaboration between the Pakistan Embassy, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ and Fukuoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The seminar was attended by leading businesses, representatives of prefectural governments of Kyushu region and business support organizations.


The Ambassador of Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Asad M. Khan, who has deep local bonds since the time when he was a doctorate student at Kyushu University, opened the seminar with his keynote address. Mr. Osamu Hisaki, Head of JETRO Office in Karachi and Mr. Hitoshi Kanahori, Head of Mitsubishi UFJ Bank in Karachi, made presentations about the investment and trade opportunities emerging in Pakistan. 


The Seminar focused on the recent economic turnaround of Pakistan and opportunities for Japanese business houses to trade with and invest in thecountry.


The Ambassador stated in his remarks that out of all the G7 countries, Japanhas the longest standing trade and investment relations with Pakistan. He especially mentioned the encouraging response from the investor andbusiness community to the seminar and announced that this seminar was part of a series of similar seminars that will be held in all major economic hubs of the country.


The speakers discussedthe positive macroeconomic trends in Pakistan, potential of the local market, growth potential, vibrant demography and Government of Pakistan’s attractive incentives’ regime for Foreign Direct Investment inPakistan amidst rapidly improving security situation. They highlighted the massive investment in infrastructure projects that can allow Pakistan to act as the regional trade and transportation hub.Speakers also mentioned the upbeat business environment in Pakistan at the moment and dilated upon the remarkablesuccess of Japanese corporations in Pakistan over the years.


The seminar ended with a networking reception for the participants.
