A delegation of Rotary Club Japan led by its President Masao Horikawa called on Ambassador Farukh Amil (عامل فاروق). The President informed that a delegation of Rotary Club is going to visit Islamabad, Karachi and Thatta. The purpose of the visit is to acquaint the Japanese chapter of the Rotary Club with Pakistan and focus on where they can contribute. One main area they expressed an interest was the polio eradication campaign. The delegation is scheduled to visit the National Rural Support Programme’s (NRSP) head office, Ministry of Health and UN agencies and also plans to observe the polio eradication campaign going on in the villages near Thatta in Sindh. The Club also intends to establish a ‘Rotary Village’ near Thatta to help settle the flood-affected people of Sindh who were severely affected by the floods of 2010 and 2011. Rotary Club, Japan also expressed keen interest to establish a Health School to train and produce health workers in Pakistan. The delegation was accompanied by Foreign Ministry officials and also had support of Japanese Parliamentarians.
The Ambassador warmly welcomed the Rotary Club Japan’s initiative to visit Pakistan and help meet the challenges in the health sector. He said that the people of Japan had always been very generous and supportive to Pakistan especially in rendering developmental and humanitarian assistance. He assured the delegation of the Embassy’s full cooperation in making their visit both meaningful and productive.
