Press Release - Ambassador visits Fukushima

    Tokyo (February 13, 2013) – The Ambassador of Pakistan Farukh Amil (فاروق عامل) met today with Yuhei Sato, the Governor of Fukushima.

    The Ambassador expressed his grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and property as a result of Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011. After taking over the charge of the Ambassador of Pakistan, it was his first visit out of Tokyo. Fukushima was chosen as the first destruction where the people had suffered the triple tragedy of earthquake, tsunami and breakdown of Daiichi Nuclear Power in order express the solidarity and support of the people and the government of Pakistan.     

    The Ambassador recalling the day of March 11, 2011 noted   that the President of Pakistan, when he heard about the Earthquake he was deeply saddened and not only immediately dispatched relief assistance goods to friendly people of Japan but also visited to Japanese Embassy to record his heartfelt condolences.

    The Ambassador also thanked the people and the Government of Japan for the consistent generous help and assistance to Pakistan throughout the over 60 year relationship and especially in times of natural calamities such as the Earthquake of 2005 and the Floods of 2010.

    The Governor expressed his gratitude and thanked the Ambassador for visiting Fukushima and thanked the Pakistan government for its assistance and support. He specially mentioned the help and assistance provided by the Pakistanis living in Japan during the Great East Japan Earthquake.

    The Governor Sato said that the rehabilitation work in the calamity hit areas is in full progress and hoped that with the help of National Government and the international community including Pakistan, the revitalization work would soon be completed.

    Later on Ambassador called on Professor Osamu Nittono, the President of the Fukushima University. Both the dignitaries discussed the matters of mutual interest including the after effects of earthquake, radiation levels in the area, exchange of students between the Fukushima University and the Universities in Pakistan.

     The Ambassador invited the President of the University to send a delegation including the Professors and Students of the University to Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo. The Ambassador noted that Pakistan – Japan has long association spread over 60 years. He underlined the need to further strengthen this relationship through active exchange in the fields of education, sports and culture.
