Dignity in Empowerment: Paper Miracles Exhibition

In continuation of Mission’s Public Diplomacy efforts, “Paper Miracles Exhibition” in collaboration with Paper Miracles and Mainichi Shimbun was organized at the Events Hall of the Embassy to remember and to pay homage to the victims of 2005 earthquake on the tenth Anniversary. The Event started with the prayers for the departed souls.


A large number of Japanese people, diplomats, academics and members of civil society attended the event and appreciated the work and efforts of the female survivors of the earthquake. The Exhibition showcased a wide range of products made by women of the affected areas including exquisite paper beads jewellery, ornaments and home textile collections etc. Additionally photographs taken after the earthquake by Mr. Kenjiro Sato photographer of Mainichi Shimbun were also displayed. A short documentary showing the efforts and resilience of people from the earthquake-hit areas, especially women and their positive contributions was screened.


Ms. Mariko Nakasone Vice President of Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society (ALFS), daughter-in-law of Former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone and wife of former Foreign and Education Minister Mr. Hirobumi Nakasone, graced the occasion as a Chief Guest. Madam Nakasone appreciated the efforts of the women in the earthquake-hit region and eulogized the bravery, patience and constructive contribution of women in their own empowerment.


Ambassador Farukh Amil expressed his appreciation to CEO Paper Miracles Ms. Takagaki for her efforts to help the victims of 2005 earthquake to stand on their feet and earn their livelihood in a respectable and dignified manner. He said that the positive and brave stories of women who survived the devastating earthquake were extremely inspirational and source of hope and courage for millions of women across Pakistan and world. The Ambassador added that without active participation of women at all levels in society the dream of equality, development, creativity and peace could not be achieved.
