JICA agriculture project: Bringing Pakistan and Japan’s rural communities together

Tokyo:  A delegation led by Ms. Midori Hashiba, Member of the Iijima Town Assembly visited Pakistan Embassy accompanied by a delegation of elders and prominent citizens.  Ambassador Farukh Amil gave a detailed presentation on Pakistan’s history, culture, trade and friendship with Japan. 

Professor Hiroshima, Senior JICA Advisor who was present had arranged a visit to the JICA project in Iijima Town, Nagano Prefecture last year, an area known for its quality fruits particularly apples.  Iijima town authorities have been collaborating with farmers in Iijima Valley and Hunza Valley under a JICA programme in order to improve Pakistani apple production and marketing.  Several Pakistani farmers have come to train in Nagano Prefecture.

Following the presentation the delegation enjoyed Pakistani food at a lunch.  The Ambassador highlighted the strong cultural relations and cultural similarities between Pakistan and Japan in particular the respect for elders.  The elders expressed their deep appreciation for the love and warmth shown by Pakistanis.
