Meeting with Chairman Oita Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI)

Ambassador Farukh Amil (فاروق عامل) called on Chairman and President of Oita Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) to discuss promotion of bilateral trade and seek investment in Pakistan.  Oita is the home to major companies such as Nippon Steel, Toshiba, Daihatsu and hi-tech and pharmaceuticals industry.  It is also a centre of Japanese alternative and renewable energy. 

The Ambassador outlined Pakistan’s priorities of energy, infrastructure especially transportation and small and medium dams.  Describing Oita as a ‘city of the future’, the Ambassador stressed the importance of clean, renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources, particularly geo-thermal and solar.  Chairman OCCI welcomed Pakistan’s interest in these areas and said that increased awareness and interaction and joint ventures would help develop business ties.  The Ambassador reiterated that a level playing field should be provided to Pakistan on market access issues.  He invited OCCI members to participate in Expo-14 in Karachi. 


Chairman OCCI welcomed the visit of the Ambassador to highlight opportunities in Pakistan.  He said continuous interaction would be very productive for business communities in both countries.  He expressed keen interest in Pakistan and advised that a country specific seminar on Pakistan be held in conjunction with OCCI at Oita.  While explaining the activities of OCCI, he highlighted the role of Oita as the pre-eminent city of Japan leading in its initiative towards green power generation.  He supported the Ambassador’s idea to establish institutional linkages between OCCI and its corresponding trade organizations in Pakistan as a way to strengthen and improve respective business interests and awareness.
