Tokyo: Ambassador Farukh Amil delivered a presentation/lecture to an audience at Rikkyo University which comprised of senior bankers, professors, scientists, academics, executives from private sector companies who are attending a course at Rikkyo University’s Second Stage College. He briefed them on the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to address the challenges in the social sector, in particular poverty and women’s empowerment. The Ambassador highlighted the measures taken under various national and provincial schemes over the years and more recently the Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar, Waseela-e-Sehet and the National and Benazir Income Support Programmes.
In the long and lively question and answer session participants were eager to know about the state of education in Pakistan, literacy, teacher training and the status of women in Pakistan. The Ambassador dilated in detail upon these subjects.
