Roshan Digital Account Webinar Arranged for Pakistani Community in Japan

(Tokyo, Sept. 23, 2021): At the successful completion of first year of Roshan Digital Account – an innovative initiative by the current government, Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo hosted a webinar in collaboration with HBL Bank and State Bank of Pakistan to further highlight opportunities related to Roshan Digital Account (RDA); its evolving features; and, an increasing range of products offered for overseas Pakistanis. The event mainly focused Pakistani community living in Japan as the primary audience, and was attended by a diverse group of Pakistanis living in Japan including entrepreneurs, salaried persons, housewives and students.

In addition to the top management of HBL, distinguished speakers joined from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF) emphasizing importance of integrating economies of Pakistan and Japan through a more active role by the Pakistani diaspora in Japan.

While welcoming the speakers and audience, President HBL Mr. Aurangzeb thanked Ambassador Imtiaz Ahmad and Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo for supporting the event and highlighting success of Roshan Digital Account. His Excellency Ambassador Imtiaz Ahmad referred to the recent briefing of Governor State Bankto Prime Minister Imran Khan on successful completion of the first year of this unique initiative by the current government – opening more than two hundred thousand accounts and over $2.3 billion transactions in one year, indicating a strong interest andhigh level of confidence shown by overseas Pakistanis in Roshan Digital Account. The Ambassador encouraged small but affluent Pakistanicommunity in Japan to take benefit of this unique product not only for their personal benefit but also in order to contribute to Pakistan’s economy.

Giving an account of increasing trade and investment between Pakistan and Japan in the recent months, Trade & Investment Counselor Mr. Tahir Cheema requested HBL and SBP to enlighten Pakistani community in Japan on ease and transparency associated with Roshan Digital Account and the ways individuals may utilize this facility to channel their investments back home. With extensive and first-hand knowledge of this scheme, Mr. Irfan Ali (MD, SBP) elaborated regulatory and taxation related aspects associated with RDA while Syed Mohsin Ali Shah of HBL presented a flow chart on ease of opening a Roshan Digital Account for information of the audience. Respective division heads of HBL shared features of Roshan Digital Islamic Banking, Roshan Digital Apni Car and Roshan Digital Apna Ghar with a couple of testimonials from satisfied customers overseas.

Mr. Kalim Farooqui, Chairman PJBF appreciated the efforts of Pakistani Embassy in Tokyo for assigning a high priority to enhancing economic relations between Pakistan and Japan through an increase in trade and investment. He also informed the audience about exceptional achievements of the Embassy during the last couple of years, inviting Pakistani community in Japan to become a part of this growth which has a huge potential for both countries.

During the webinar, HBL’s customer relations team responded to different queries of participants live; further offering a dedicated complaint resolution mechanism and handholding for all intended account holders.
