SAPM Tariq Fatemi met with PM Abe, UNDP Chief and Deputy PM Turkey

Tokyo: (16 March 2015):  Continuing his engagements on the sidelines of United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Summit the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister met with Prime Minister Abe last evening at a reception.  The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister conveyed the best wishes of the Prime Minister, reiterating the invitation to visit Pakistan.  Prime Minister Abe greeted the SAPM warmly, expressing gratitude for Pakistan’s participation in the UN Summit and conveyed his best wishes to the Prime Minister.


In a detailed discussion with UNDP Chief Ms. Helen Clark the SAPM underlined the importance of the UN’s activities in Pakistan.  The SAPM underscored the need for greater assistance for the Temporarily Dislocated Persons in addition to the mainstream development activities.  Ms. Clark expressing full understanding of the complex set of challenges, reiterated her strong support for UN efforts in Pakistan.  She said that she planned to visit Pakistan later this year.

At the ECO working lunch, chaired by Secretary General ECO and the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Mr. Numan Kurtulmus, the SAPM underscored the importance making the ECO more focused, dynamic and relevant given the commonalities of interest and vast regional resources.  The Turkish Deputy Prime Minister greeted the SAPM and also reiterated the depth and strength of Pakistan-Turkey bilateral ties.
