Tokyo (March 26, 2013) – Ambassador Farukh Amil visited Tsukuba University where many Pakistani students are undertaking postgraduate degrees in science and technology. He held a meeting with the Vice President of the University Mr. Kazuhiko Shimizu. On this occasion the Ambassador enquired about the health of hospitalized President of the University and wished his early recovery.
The Ambassador addressing the students of the University said Japan is an important development partner of Pakistan and thanked the Government of Japan for the help and assistance to Pakistan during the earthquake and floods. Mentioning Pakistan – Japan Friendship Tunnel at Kohat, the Ambassador remarked that it had brought enormous change in the lives of the people of that area. The people in Pakistan genuinely admired Japan because of its dignified and unconditional assistance.
Referring to the Japanese advancement in technology, Ambassador said Pakistan wanted to emulate the successful Japanese triangle of ‘Academia, Innovation and Industry’ which had contributed marvelously to the development of Japan’s economy. He underlined the need for mutual collaboration among the Universities of two countries. He proposed that the Universities of the two countries pursue the exchange of students, eminent professors and scholars.
Earlier the Director of Global Activities Professor Kazuo Akiyama elaborated on the activities of the University. He said the University was an old seat of learning which had been active since 1872 as a school. It formally became a University 40 years ago and now has the largest Campus in Japan, situated in a corridor of various important National Institutes. Tsukuba University had adopted English as a medium of imparting education in 27 disciplines. He informed that Tsukuba University wanted to formalize MoUs of collaboration with Kohat and Peshawar Universities and intended to pursue more collaboration with other Universities in Pakistan. The Ambassador assured the various Deans and Professors of full support to achieve these goals since education was critical for the development of Pakistan.
