Ambassador Farukh Amil (فاروق عامل) called on the new Governor of Tokyo H. E. Yoichi Masuzoe. During the call the Governor informed the Ambassador of the efforts being undertaken to expand and improve the urban infrastructure especially transportation, sewerage and also disaster preparedness. The Governor said Japan was ready to share its experience and requested Pakistan to send its engineers and urban development specialists for consultations. Fully agreeing, the Ambassador said it was important to evolve formal mechanisms to secure the sharing and transfer of knowledge, skills and technology.
The Ambassador highlighted that the Government of Pakistan was focused on development priorities such as urban rail and road infrastructure. Japan, he said, was a world class partner in this respect, with 76 Japanese companies already working in Pakistan.
The Ambassador, in reiterating congratulations on the successful Olympic bid highlighted Tokyo’s requirement for foreign labour, underlining that Pakistan had excellent human resources available, skilled, semi-skilled and construction workers. The Governor welcomed the offer and directed his relevant departments to examine the proposal positively. Responding to the Governor’s invitation, the Ambassador said that the Embassy would certainly participate in Tokyo’s disaster preparedness exercises now being undertaken on a quarterly basis.
In response to the kind words of the Governor to support the Pakistan Festival, before departing the Ambassador expressed deep appreciation for Tokyo’s assistance in holding the successful Pakistan Festival in Ueno Park.
