The Fukuoka Arts & Culture Prize awarded to Madam Yasmeen Lari


Marking yet another achievement by dynamic women of Pakistan, the first and leading female architect Madam Yasmeen Lari was awarded the prestigious Fukuoka Prize for Arts and Culture on 16th September 2016 in Fukuoka City.

Ambassador Farukh Amil attended the ceremony.  The Chief Guests were Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino.   At the Prize ceremony Madam Lari was lauded for her immense contribution for historical conservancy and in particular her ground-breaking work to construct low-cost housing/basic shelter made with materials with a low carbon footprint for the most under-privileged and affectees of natural disasters.  Responding on the status of women in Pakistan Madam Lari outlined that there are many areas in which Pakistan had made great achievements and said that there were many young women who had taken up architecture as a profession.


Subsequently The Japan Foundation celebrated her work in a lecture on 20th September at Japan Foundation Headquarters in Tokyo which was attended by many people from the world of academia and development.  Her Imperial Highness Princess Akishino graced this event also.  


During her visit to Tokyo the renowned architect visited the Embassy premises on 21st September, 2016 and offered her candid and professional opinion on the architecture of the Chancery Complex.
