Public Diplomacy: A Conversation with Ambassador of Pakistan –“Discover Pakistan” with the English Speaking Union of Japan

A Conversation with Ambassador of Pakistan -“Discover Pakistan” with the English Speaking Union of Japan (ESUJ) was held at the Events Hall of the Embassy.Mr. NUMATA Sadaaki- Chairman ESUJ and former Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan – moderated the discussions. Over 30 members of ESUJ from different occupations including academics, researchers, former Japanese officials, businesspersons, members of the civil society and the media attended the event.

A lively discussion started with interview of the Ambassador on his diplomatic career and experience, childhood and education, Pakistan’s cultural and historical aspects, Pakistan-Japan ties, women empowerment and strengthening of democracy in Pakistan.


During the discussion,the Ambassador underlined the Prime Minister’s vision of a “Peaceful Neighborhood”, Pakistan’s contributions to the world peace through UN Peacekeeping Operations and growing democratic culture and institutions. He especially highlighted the grave human rights situation in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir and elaborated on increasing role of women and Government’s efforts to promote political, economic and social rights of women.


The question and answer session ranging from culture to the nuclear issue proved interesting.


The event concluded after an interactive session over high tea with which Pakistani cuisine was served.
