Deputy Chief of Mission calls on Mr. Yasuo Ogata, Chairperson International Commission, Japanese Communist Party

Mr. Ali Javed, Deputy Chief of Mission, called on H.E. Mr. Yasuo Ogata, Chairperson International Commission, Japanese Community Party (JCP) at the Party’s Headquarters in Tokyo on July 30, 2015. Mr. Ogata has been a member of Upper House from 2000-2010.


Deputy Chief of Mission rendered comprehensive briefing on bilateral, inter-parliamentary and political relations in backdrop of well performing democratic institutions and values in Pakistan.


Describing Parliamentary Exchanges as the highest form of people-to-people contact, Mr. Javed invited JCP to joining the Japan Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship League.


Appreciating the gains made by JCP in General Elections of December 2014 (from 8-21 seats) and subsequent performance at local elections of April 2015, Mr. Javed praised the contributions from JCP on vital domestic and international issues.


Mr. Ogata welcomed the Mission’s initiative to establish direct links with JCP. He added that JCP enjoyed deep relations with Pakistan stating that current JCP President had twice visited Pakistan. Mr. Ogata stated he had visited Pakistan on 10 occasions including in 1980, as a Paris-Based journalist to investigate USSR invasion of Afghanistan.

 

Mr. Ogata expressed JCP’s keenness to join JPPFL and appreciated Mission’s efforts to dovetail the vision of Parliament and Government of Pakistan to deepen bilateral ties.

 

Mr. Ogata acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions to UN Peacekeeping Operations and invited Mr. Morihara, Vice Chair, International Commission JCP, to share his personal story of receiving critical treatment at Pakistan Army Hospital in Somalia in 1994.

 

Third Secretaries Mr. Qaiser and Javaid assisted in the interaction that lasted 75 minutes.
