Public Diplomacy: Artists-in-Residence Art Exhibition


    

Artists-in-Residence Art Exhibition was held at the Embassy of Pakistan Tokyo on 2 June 2016. It was the culmination of a two week event by   prominent artists of Pakistan (Ms. Ilona Yusuf, Ms. Alia Bilgrami, Ms. Amna, Mr. Imran, Mr. Jibran, Ms. Seyhr and Ms. Sheherbano) who during their stay in Japan observed Japanese culture, society, people and created inspiring/fascinating work showing fusion of Japan and Pakistan.  The artists also had the opportunity to interact with curators of leading museums. 

   

The Exhibition was attended by large number of leading Japanese artists, parliamentarians including Honourable Antonio Inoki, diplomats, members of the civil society, businessmen, officials, academia, media, and artists who appreciated the art work. The paintings in the Exhibition portrayed the creative genius of Pakistan and its dynamic arts community. The famous Japanese artist and actor Mr. Tsurutaro Kataoka graced the occasion as Chief Guest.


   

Mr. Kataoka said that he was truly honoured to take part in this event and extremely happy to see the captivating work produced by Pakistani artists.  He spent with immense interest a great amount of time observing each art work minutely. After the event, he wrote in his blog “I spent plenty of time walking and seeing around the wonderful pieces made by Pakistani artists at the Embassy of Pakistan.”


   

In his welcome address the Ambassador said that culture and art was the soul of a nation and its expression in friendly countries such as Japan served to deepen understanding. The unique endeavour of the Pakistani artists strengthen such important linkages. He emphasized such art work not only showed the talents of Pakistani artists but also depicted the beauty and positive image of Pakistan.
