18thMeeting of the Board of Directors of Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) and Asian Regional Meeting of International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Presided by the President of AOA/ Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan, Mr. M. Salman Faruqui, Nishan e Imtiaz

The 18thMeeting of the Board of Directors of Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) was held on 7 March 2016 in Tokyo, which was presided by the President AOA/ Honourable Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan, Mr. M. Salman Faruqui, Nishan e Imtiaz. The Meeting was held in continuation of the 17th Asian Ombudsman Association, which took place in November 2015 in Islamabad. In the 17th AOA meeting at Islamabad, Mr. Faruqui was elected as President of AOA. Board of Directors from Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Hong Kong, Tatarstan attended the meeting in Tokyo.

Members of the Board of Directors agreed that the electronic system would be used for communication between the member countries. The electronic system would be operated by the Secretariat of AOA situated in Pakistan. President AOA stressed that the work of the Ombudsmen was to improve the life of the citizens and address all the relevant issues. Accordingly in order to ensure transparency it was imperative that all the relevant information should be placed on the AOA’s website for the public.

Tatarstan’s offer to host the next meeting in August 2016 was agreed by all the members of the Board.

Vice Minister Ministry of Supervision of China held a separate meeting with the Honourable Federal Ombudsman on the sidelines of the subject meeting in which matters of mutual interest were discussed.

Later President AOA/Honourable Federal Ombudsman chaired the Asian Regional Meeting of International Ombudsman Institute. The meeting was attended by delegations from Korea, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Thailand, Macau, and Timor Leste as well as Secretary General of International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) in addition to the above mentioned countries.
